Destination Guide: Grenada and the Grenadines
Yachts and megayachts tired of the typical Caribbean scene are heading south, to Grenada. The southernmost of the Windward Islands, Grenada is anything but overrun with crowds, and its people are warm and friendly.

This 180’5” (55-meter) megayacht design was commissioned jointly by Hakvoort Shipyard and Moran Yacht & Ship She’s based on a fast-displacement hull design, a concept increasing in application in the yachting industry. As a reminder, a fast-displacement hull form is somewhat of a hybrid between a traditional displacement hull and a semi-displacement one. To that point, it’s fuel efficient at both slower cruising speeds and higher ones, rather than just one or the other.
Seven bridges to be closed to everyone
Sofia, the largest superyacht in Moonen’s history, is still on pace for completion by the end of the year.
At 255 feet (77.7 meters), Tango makes quite the impression. It’s heightened by an unusual paint job: a combination of metallic grey swaths and blue paint on the superstructure, paired with a white hull. Imagine what that looks like when Tango is cruising at her reported top speed of 21 knots, powered by quadruple (yes, quadruple) MTU diesel engines
While other designers are researching hybrid technology for more fuel-efficient megayacht designs, Rene van der Velden is confident economy-minded owners can remain that way with traditional diesel power. That’s one of the features of the 110-foot cruiser concept seen here. In fact, the Rene van der Velden 110 Cruiser includes a variety of basic systems and machinery, eschewing the trend to go high-tech.
Pendennis welcomed one superb superyacht, Mirabella V, in for a refit while it was getting ready to say goodbye to another, Heavenly Daze. When Pendennis announced in March that its Pendennis Plus division was to refit Mirabella V, being renamed M5 , our website lit up like a Christmas tree.
